Atmospheric Observing System (AOS) Science Data Segment (SDS)
The Atmosphere Observing System (AOS) mission aims to enhance our understanding of the relationships between aerosols, clouds, atmospheric convection, and precipitation. How? By providing unmatched insight into the vertical structure of our atmosphere with observations from space, our skies, and on the ground. AOS will deliver key data for improved forecasts of weather, air quality and climate. AOS comprises a diverse and complimentary collection of active and passive scientific instruments aboard multiple coordinated observatories in low Earth orbit: some instruments arrayed in an inclined orbit for diurnal observations and others in a polar Sun-synchronous orbit for global same-time-of-day observations.
The Science Data Segment supports the science team software development and mission data processing. Open source science software is available online. External users can register to submit issues or open source contributions.
